What lies beyond asana? Join international movement artist David Kam in an introductory masterclass celebrating movement as a practice of freedom and intuition, beyond technique and alignment. After all, it is through movement that we learnt to communicate, before words came into the picture.

Experience the practice of asana reimagined in a series of playful movement situations drawing inspiration from the worlds of architecture, dance and mixed movement arts. A brave space for collective un/structured play to expand your capacities for pleasure and self-expression. We will explore different strategies to condition towards complexity and mobilise towards longevity.

This session has been designed to welcome curious minds across varying physiques, neuro-divergences and dis/abilities, where you are empowered to tailor towards your respective edges of challenge and comfort from the restorative to the dynamic.

Physical practice is followed by a 30min Q&A where we can engage in rich discussions amongst like-minded movers.

David Kam 甘家偉 is a queer movement artist sharing embodied practices of joy, connection and liberation. Blending the worlds of architecture, dance and yoga, David pitches movement as an expression of both party and protest. He believes that movement can be a medium for us to find home in our bodies and a springboard towards engaging in collective action and transgenerational healing.

As an educator, David lectures at top dance institutions including London Contemporary Dance School and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, specialising in choreological studies and yoga for professional movers. Beyond academia, David shares movement masterclasses, workshops and retreats internationally, if not at Mission E1, his home studio in London which is the biggest yoga and movement centre in Europe. He is also part of the Ferus Animi / Terra Nova collective, a specialist movement and art research collective based in Europe.

Class is never prescriptive with David, but an invitation to move from a place of ‘What If?' to ‘Why Not?'. Every session encourages the divergent unfolding of body stories in a peopled space, a unique gathering to honour gratitude, with-ness and wild permission. David is most invested in the feeling of movement beyond form and technique, and the power of play in enabling choice from a place of self dare.

Bridging intent towards impact, David founded kindredpacket, a grassroots movement uplifting East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) communities through culturally sensitive practices of wellbeing. He also delivers Active Bystander Training as part of his work with Britain's East and Southeast Asian Network to combat identity-based violence. David is a proud facilitator for We Create Space, a global platform advocating wellness for queer leaders.
