Description

Incorporating a daily meditation practice into our life keeps us attuned to the importance of living ordinary moments with mindful attention. Although some people seem gifted to be naturally calm and aware, these qualities are actually particular skills that anyone can cultivate in order to live a more ease filled and joyful life.

Yin yoga is an essential complement to our more active styles and offers a vehicle to develop our contemplative nature, as well as a template for sustaining or supporting the functions of our organs. The Yin style also keeps the body supple at its core while encouraging stagnate chi (prana) to flow throughout the joints, engendering a quality of steady ease. The slow flow Yang practice can help maintain core stability while enhancing our creative, active energy.

In this workshop we will explore the value of interweaving Yin/Yang practices on the body, heart, and mind, with a focus on developing our earth chi, provoking strength and stability in the lower body. We will begin with standing poses to gather our internal vitality, and then we will focus on yin poses specifically designed for benefiting our digestive organs, namely the stomach and spleen. Sarah will describe briefly how our yoga practice can not only keep us strong and energized, but with certain sequences added, how we can encourage our deeper internal health as well. She will also address a few questions. Sarah will end our time with a brief meditation session.

This workshop is suitable for beginners to Yin Yoga as a precursor to her more in-depth level one training, as well as those who want to review some of the key elements of this potent method of yoga in relation to meridian health. It will also serve as a helpful review for those who have completed Sarah’s Level 1 course and are planning on attending Sarah’s Level 2 Online Training December 2-4, 9-11 2022.

Sarah Powers began teaching in 1987. She is the founder and author of Insight Yoga, which interweaves the insights and practices of Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and Transpersonal Psychology into an integral practice to discover and enliven the body, heart and mind. Her yoga style blends both a Yin sequence of floor poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, combined with an alignment-based slow flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, Iyengar teachings, and QIgong. Sarah feels that enlivening the physical and pranic bodies, as well as learning to open to our psychological patterns is paramount for preparing one to deepen and nourish insights into one's essential nature--a natural state of awareness. She draws from her studies in Transpersonal Psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism. Her newest book, Lit From Within: Yoga, Teachings and Practices for Illuminating the Inner Life, is published in 2021.
