TEACHERS BIOS

Born in Taiwan, raised in the USA, Ann started practicing yoga in 1999, when she moved to New York City. After mustering the courage to leave behind the security of her corporate job as a Vice President at Merrill Lynch in 2004, she embedded her passion for yoga into the next stage of her life by completing her first teacher training and started teaching in New York. Ann moved to Taiwan in 2007, where she continued to expand the scope of her teaching and studies through additional trainings and workshops.

Her approach to yoga is one of curiosity, wonder and respect. Seeking the true spirit and commonality of yoga and life, Ann studied with a wide range of Master Teachers over the years. Her experience has made her realize that to gain a glimpse of its essence, it is also important to delve deeply into one system of yoga, while remaining non-dogmatic. She is privileged to count Senior Iyengar Teacher, Peter Scott, as her main guiding influence, and the completeness and depth of the Iyengar method to Asana and Pranayama have greatly informed her own distinctive teaching style.

Ann is convinced that her Dharma (mission in life) is to help others improve their well-being through mind/body awareness practices. Years of soul-searching and self-discovery led to a uniquely profound understanding of yoga that honed her teaching skills. She now uses this knowledge and experience to help others by providing useful tools to deal with stress-related issues, as well as teaching them practical ways to achieve emotional wellness through a dedicated practice. Since completing her requisite training with Yoga Works in 2005, she has also been teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga. In addition, Ann has completed her Life-force Yoga level I advanced teacher training for depression and anxiety in the USA in 2009.

To advance her life’s journey of helping others, she is currently enrolled in a three-year Somatic Experiencing (SE) trauma therapist-training program. Based on body-awareness, SE is a scientific approach to help restore our nervous system’s natural rebalancing process and can be broadly applied to manage the stress and complexity of daily life and its associated challenges. Ann is one of the few teachers to have successfully integrated this approach and other effective mind/body techniques, including ones from the Hoffman Process and Vipassana Meditation, with her yoga teachings to help students develop awareness, connection and insight. Formative events in her personal life, whether it was the joyful births of her two beautiful children, or the challenging trials of dealing with clinical depression and the breakup of a marriage, taught her to embrace them all as wonderful opportunities for transformation and further spiritual growth. These experiences made her appreciate how a consistent practice and everyday mindfulness not only allow us to enjoy the pleasures of life more fully, but also help us to face difficulties in life with grace and ease.

It is this deeper journey that Ann would like to share with her students. Known for her soothing, nurturing style of teaching, she strives to be a supportive presence; a compassionate guardian of her student’s well-being, and an enabling guide who helps students find their individual path towards a life of awareness and spirituality.
